Recent Buys: Hi-lo, hi-lo, a-shoppin' we will go...

It has been ages since I blogged a 'Recent Buys' post, partly because I have read that often some people view such posts as 'bragging', when that is truly never the case here. Still, I am so excited over some of my 'recent' purchases, I felt compelled to share. This is the first time I have ordered from Asos, and my items have yet to arrive (2 weeks and still no show), so I'm hoping they are as great in real life as I view them online. I am very happy with my Topshop purchase, although the background is 'pinker' than shown in the pic.



As you can probably tell from my purchases, I have a 'problem' that I often cannot decide between two colours, and often buy both (or sometimes more, like my Stella McCartney pumps), especially if they're a good price, and look very versatile/wearable...



Funnily, the most expensive item is the one I am having the most trouble trying to figure out how to wear (the Vanessa Bruno leather & lace jacket below), mostly due its pale sage green colour (tricky with my colouring - which I knew from the outset, but loved it too much to heed to), and also because the lace makes it quite 'girly', so I need to find a way to dress it down and toughen it up. So I would LOVE to hear any suggestions on what to wear it with!

Here's the jacket worn on the runway, I like that it's teamed with long-sleeved printed blouse, tried it on with such a blouse I have in my wardrobe, alas, it's too 'orange' and not blue-based enough to work.

Kai-Aakmann draped grey top - had wanted this ages ago, but it sold out before I got the chance to buy, and later found it on a discount site, only to pay $50 in postage, bringing it back to retail price, doh! Ah well, at least I found it!

Saucy Lulu - Where Art Thou?

Years ago, I stumbled across some pieces by Saucy Lulu, a Los Angeles designer whose pieces I found incredibly unique, yet were very hard-to-find. It seems like it's even harder to find anything on Saucy Lulu now, as I can't find anything on her recently. Has anyone spotted her, or her designs recently?

I love this top for so many reasons, including the gorgeous vintage cloth (almost like a muslin) which is subtly beaded & sequenced, the off-shoulder design (I love off-shoulder tops/dresses!), the large kimono sleeves, and the in-built large sash which ties at the back.

As I recently thought of Saucy Lulu, I went to my wardrobe to reach for another of her tops, and...couldn't find it! Not only could I not find it, I realized I had not seen it in the 2 years I've lived in the present house, which left me very upset, as I have no idea where it is, but at least I have a picture of it:

I love the 'sportiness' of this top's design (especially the trimming), which dresses down this otherwise over-the-top silk chiffon blouse, complete with a beaded toucan. I am determined to find this top now, and hope that soon I can take a close-up photo of it. Wish me luck!

East meets West with Dries Van Noten

I apologise for the terribly botched up polyvore picture (as you can probably tell, it's my first go, and I have yet to learn how to use it).  I was trying to hide the fact that my picture itself is pretty bad.  I hope I can 'upgrade' this photo soon.

I LOVE these Dries Van Noten shoes!  Dries Van Noten is one of my favourite designers, for both his amazing clothes AND shoes, but that's another post altogether, as is my love for kimonos.

Favourite looks: Asian/Oriental (especially kimonos, LOVE them!), Drapey/Grecian (love, love, love) and Stripes (Nautical/French/Mariniere).
Favourite designers/labels: Dries Van Noten, Akira Isogawa, ooh...hard to pick a 3rd as I have so many and haven't figured out their 'ranking'...(Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Olivier Theyskens, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Chloe (but only in the Stella & Phoebe Philo days), Rodarte, Roksanda Illincic, Burberry Prorsum (especially Christopher Bailey's Spring 2005 collection), Bottega Veneta (divine), Vanessa Bruno) hm...I'll be here forever.
Fashion dislikes:  These may look gorgeous on others, but on me you will never see:  animal prints, fluoro colours (not even back in the 80's), and obvious logos/branding (once again, just not me).
Anyway, this is probably going to be the briefest of intro's, but there's no point boring the 1-2 people that'll read this. In a nutshell, I agree with Coco Chanel's quote above, and find beauty and fashion in everything we see, and absolutely LOVE it!
